UPDATE: Woman killed in wrong-way crash in Somerset County; investigation ongoing

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — Authorities are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Somerset woman Sunday morning on Easton Avenue near Cedar Grove Lane, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

Prosecutor McDonald, along with Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. and Franklin Township Acting Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks, said that at approximately 7:43 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2025, Franklin Township police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a two-vehicle crash at the intersection.

Responding officers and emergency medical personnel found that the driver of a 2019 white Honda Civic, identified as Michele Rojek, 51, of Somerset, had sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a nearby trauma center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 37-year-old Piscataway resident operating a 2023 gray Toyota Tundra, did not require medical attention, officials said.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Franklin Township Police Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (C.A.R.T.), Rojek’s vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Easton Avenue when it collided with the Toyota Tundra. Witness statements corroborated those findings, investigators said.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
