WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Postal Service is now accepting letters for its annual Operation Santa program, which connects children and families with people who can help fulfill their holiday wishes.
This year marks the 114th year of USPS Operation Santa, which is open to children and families throughout the continental United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Each year, families send letters addressed to Santa at the North Pole. Through Operation Santa, individuals and groups can adopt participating letters and send gifts based on the requests.
“The holidays are a time to celebrate the joy of the season. But for some, the simple act of exchanging even small gifts is out of reach,” said Sheila Holman, vice president of marketing for the Postal Service. “For more than 100 years, USPS Operation Santa has given kindhearted people the opportunity to make dreams come true for thousands of children and their families through simple acts of kindness.”
Letters must follow the program’s guidelines and be postmarked by Dec. 5 to be eligible for potential adoption. The Postal Service said there is no guarantee that a submitted letter will be adopted.

Registration for people interested in adopting letters begins Nov. 2. Individuals and groups can register to participate.
The letter adoption period opens Nov. 16, when registered participants can select individual or family letters and fulfill requested holiday wishes.
