Verizon says outage that disrupted wireless voice and data service is resolved; credits promised
Verizon said Wednesday night that an outage disrupting wireless voice and data service for some customers had been resolved, after a day of intermittent service problems that drew more than 1.5 million reports on outage-tracking site Downdetector.
In its first update at 1:07 p.m., Verizon said it was aware of an issue affecting wireless voice and data service and that engineers were working to identify and fix it. By 2:14 p.m., the company said engineering teams were continuing to address the interruptions and remained “fully deployed” and focused on the issue.
At 4:12 p.m., Verizon said teams were on the ground working to restore service, calling the disruption a “huge inconvenience” and saying its top priority was getting customers back online.
In an 8:59 p.m. statement, Verizon apologized, saying it had “let many of our customers down,” and said it would provide account credits to affected customers and share updates soon.
At 10:20 p.m., Verizon said the outage had been resolved. Customers still experiencing problems were encouraged to restart their devices to reconnect to the network. Verizon said details about account credits would be shared directly with affected customers.
