Warren County begins reconstruction of Lommason Glen Road after 2023 storm damage

WHITE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) — Warren County officials have begun reconstructing Lommason Glen Road, aiming to make the roadway more resilient to future storms.

The project marks the fifth reconstruction effort on Lommason Glen Road since a July 2023 storm triggered a state of emergency and closed several county roads.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved with these reconstruction efforts,” Warren County Commissioner Director Jason J. Sarnoski said. “The initial push to stop further damage was calculated and timely and the work being done now is truly impressive. County staff, the engineers, and the contractors have all worked together to ensure that this massive reconstruction project delivers a safer and stronger roadway for the residents of Warren County.”

Sarnoski added, “This project was a lot to take on and I’m eager to see the final result.”

After the 2023 storm, crews repaired a breach south of Hemlock Lane at Bridge Structure 23073 and erected a retaining wall to better direct water flow. Additional work included stabilizing the embankment, filling a 20-foot-deep shoulder collapse, and repaving the affected segment. Fallen trees along the creek were also removed to prevent future problems.

The design for the ongoing project, as well as the previous reconstruction efforts, was completed by Colliers Engineering and Design. The current half-mile construction project includes excavation of rock, installation of 1,200 linear feet of retaining wall with foundations 2 to 5 feet deep, and approximately 1,200 linear feet of rip-rap filled gabion baskets.

Colliers and county officials worked with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to ensure the project protects the surrounding natural environment, including the stream and local fish and wildlife.

Lommason Glen Road is expected to reopen to the public in late 2025.
