Man in custody in connection with 2023 Morris County bank robbery

MOUNTAIN LAKES BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A New Jersey man has been taken into federal custody for a bank robbery that occurred in November of 2023 in Mountain Lakes Borough, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.

On March 9, Tony Winst, 46, with a last known address in Cresskill was taken into custody by federal authorities in New York City, Carroll said.

On Nov. 17, 2023, at around 11:15 a.m., law enforcement received a report of a bank robbery that occurred at the PNC Bank, located at 425 Boulevard, Carroll said.

A subsequent investigation revealed that a male suspect entered the bank branch and demanded money. The suspect fled the bank with approximately $1,000 in U.S. currency. No weapon was displayed or threatened, Carroll said.

Law enforcement agencies in New Jersey worked with federal authorities to identify the alleged suspect as Winst, Carroll said

He remains in federal custody and the case will be prosecuted at the federal level, Carroll said.
