Warren County family displaced by Christmas Day fire; rescue squad, GoFundMe offer aid
STEWARTSVILLE, N.J. (Warren County) — A family of five was displaced after an early morning house fire on Christmas Day destroyed their home on North Main Street in Stewartsville section of Greenwich Township, according to the Greenwich Township Emergency Squad.
Authorities said the Jackson-Jordan family was able to escape the fire without injuries, but lost nearly all of their belongings. The family includes a 13-year-old daughter and three small dogs, officials said.
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 27, the Greenwich Township Emergency Squad will serve as a drop-off location for donated clothing and personal care items for the family. At this time, officials said monetary donations should not be left at the squad location.
The family is seeking clothing and essential items for five people, including adult men’s sizes large and medium, an adult women’s medium, and two adult women’s extra-small sizes. Donations of food and supplies for the family’s three small dogs are also needed. Additional information on donation needs is expected to be shared as it becomes available.
In addition to the supply drive, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by neighbor Laura Zhang-Choi to support the family as they recover from the fire. Zhang-Choi said the family had moved to the area several years ago to provide a healthier environment for their daughter, who is in remission from pediatric cancer.
The fundraiser notes that the family has faced recent financial strain tied to a federal shutdown, and that the fire occurred just days after the child’s 13th birthday on Christmas Eve. Zhang-Choi, who runs a local nonprofit organization that supports families in crisis in the Phillipsburg and Stewartsville area, said all proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to the family to help with immediate needs and rebuilding efforts.
Requests for additional donations such as food, shoes and household supplies are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Community members seeking to help are encouraged to monitor updates from the Greenwich Township Emergency Squad and the GoFundMe page as recovery efforts continue.
