Warren County man dies after being struck by pickup on I-80 in Pennsylvania

POCONO TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Monroe County) — A 51-year-old Warren County man died after being struck by a pickup truck along Interstate 80 in Monroe County on Monday afternoon, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers from the Stroudsburg barracks responded at about 3:51 p.m. to I-80 east near mile marker 298 in Pocono Township for a report of a pedestrian struck along the interstate.

State police said a vehicle was parked approximately 5 feet off the shoulder, with its driver standing outside near the driver’s-side door.

According to investigators, a pickup truck was traveling east on I-80 at a high rate of speed when a tractor-trailer merged into the left lane directly in front of the pickup.

Police said the pickup driver aggressively swerved toward the right lane, crossed the fog line and entered the shoulder, where the pickup struck the 51-year-old Alpha Borough man standing near the driver’s-side door of the parked vehicle.

The man was pinned to the front of the pickup for approximately 139 feet before the pickup came to a stop in a grassy ditch off the shoulder, according to state police.

The man, whose name was not released, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.
