Woman, 72, charged with DWI after Morris County crash

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A West Orange woman was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash in Denville Township earlier this month, police said.

Police said officers responded at about 10:57 p.m. Jan. 4 to the area of Diamond Spring Road, near the center of town, for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

During the investigation, officers determined that the driver, identified as Grietje Wijbenga, 72, of West Orange, was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, authorities said. Wijbenga was taken into custody and transported to Denville Township Police Headquarters for processing.

Police said Wijbenga was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses and later released pending a future court date in Denville Municipal Court.

According to police, Wijbenga was charged with operating under the influence of liquor or drugs, open container of alcohol, delaying traffic, failure to maintain marked lanes, reckless driving and careless driving.
