Woman accused of using counterfeit $100 bills at Somerset County ice cream shop

RARITAN BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – A woman is accused of using counterfeit $100 bills at a Raritan Borough ice cream shop, according to the Raritan Borough Police Department.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Dec. 18, 2024, when Raritan patrol officers were called to As You Like It Ice Cream on West Somerset Street. The business had reported that a woman had paid for items totaling $72.00 using two counterfeit $100.00 bills, police said.

Following an investigation led by the Criminal Investigation Division, and with assistance from the public, Maria Orellana-Galvez, a 33-year-old woman from Bound Brook Brough, was identified as the suspect in the case, police said.

On January 1st, 2025, charges of forgery and theft by deception were officially filed against Orellana-Galvez. A court appearance is now pending.
