Woman killed after being struck by NJ Transit train in Essex County

ORANGE, N.J. (Essex County) — A woman was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train early Friday at the Highland Avenue station in Orange, according to NJ Transit officials.

The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. when train 442 on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Line struck a female trespasser near the station.

The train had departed Gladstone at 11:53 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Hoboken Terminal at 1:22 a.m., officials said.

There were eight customers and crew members on board the train, and no injuries were reported among them.

The NJ Transit Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident.
