
Woman sentenced to probation for assault by auto in Sussex County
NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Passaic County woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to assault by auto, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.
Katherine Ozanic, 54, of Pompton Lakes Borough was sentenced on Aug. 3 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.
Ozanic was sentenced to probation and in addition to the standard conditions of probation, she must also complete 200 hours of community service, submit a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, submit a DNA sample, and pay $157.00 in fines and fees as well as a $10.00 monthly fee, Taggart said.
She had previously been sentenced on a related DWI and leaving the scene of an accident charge which had a sentence of 1 year loss of license, 24 hours ICRC, interlock during period of suspension and 2 years after license is restored, and fines and fees, Taggart said.
Ozanic pled guilty on May 22 to fourth-degree assault by auto, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, Taggart said.
In pleading guilty, Ozanic admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol which subsequently led to a motor vehicle accident with another driver. She also admitted to leaving the scene of the motor vehicle accident, Taggart said.
At sentencing, Ozanic was represented by Carl G. Zoecklein, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Nikoletta A. Agouras.
