NEW JERSEY — The annual Youth Day Firearm Deer Hunt will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, offering young hunters across the state a dedicated opportunity to participate in the deer season under close adult supervision, according to New Jersey Fish and Wildlife.
Youth hunters must hold a valid Youth Hunting License and be accompanied by a properly licensed, non-hunting adult. The bag limit for the special hunt is one deer of either sex, and all harvested deer must be registered as Youth Firearm Hunt deer. Deer taken during the youth hunt do not count toward regular season bag limits, and Antler Point Restrictions do not apply.
The event is part of New Jersey Fish and Wildlife’s longstanding Take a Kid Hunting Program, launched in the 2001–2002 season to give young hunters a safe, supportive environment to learn responsible hunting practices. The program typically includes five youth hunting opportunities — turkey, pheasant, upland birds, deer, and waterfowl — all overseen by mentors and coordinated through the agency’s R3 Program.
All youth hunters must be under the direct supervision of a licensed, non-hunting adult age 21 or older.
