1 dead after single-vehicle crash on Route 31 in Warren County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) — A 56-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Warren County, according to police.

The crash occurred at around 5:43 a.m. on Route 31 in Washington Township, police said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that the Chevy Avalanche, driven by a 56-year-old man from Columbia, NJ, was traveling southbound when, for an unknown reason, it left the roadway, striking the guardrail and a bridge abutment before rolling over into a ditch.

The driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Route 31 was closed for three and a half hours.

Washington Township police officers were assisted at the scene by the Washington Township Fire Department, Washington Emergency Squad, Hunterdon Medical Center paramedics, Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office, Warren County Communications Center, Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team, New Jersey State Police, NJ Department of Transportation Traffic Diversion Unit, and J&D Auto Body.
