2.28 million pounds of Golden Island pork jerky sold at Costco and Sam’s Club recalled for possible metal contamination

WASHINGTON, D.C. — LSI, Inc., an Alpena, S.D. establishment, is recalling approximately 2,277,540 pounds of ready-to-eat Korean barbecue pork jerky that may be contaminated with pieces of metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Friday.

The affected jerky has a one-year shelf life with “best by” dates from Oct. 23, 2025, through Sept. 23, 2026 printed on the side of the package. The recall includes 14.5-ounce and 16-ounce plastic pouches labeled “GOLDEN ISLAND fire-grilled PORK JERKY Korean BARBECUE recipe.” A list of specific lot codes and best-by dates is available from the company and FSIS.

The recalled product bears establishment number “M279A” inside the USDA mark of inspection and was shipped to Costco and Sam’s Club locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered after multiple consumer complaints about finding wiry metal pieces in the jerky. LSI, Inc. determined the metal originated from a production conveyor belt, FSIS said. There have been no confirmed injuries, but anyone concerned about a possible injury should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS cautioned that some product may still be in consumers’ pantries. The agency urged consumers not to eat the jerky and to throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure affected products are removed from sale and will post retail distribution lists when available at fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

Consumers with questions about the recall may email info@goldenislandjerky.com.
