2 injured, 1 trapped, in Hunterdon County crash

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Two people were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a crash in Raritan Township.

The collision occurred around 5:16 p.m. at the intersection of Thatchers Hill Road and Sand Hill Road. Upon arrival, emergency crews found a “T-bone” type impact between two vehicles, according to a post on the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad’s Facebook page.

One of the drivers had managed to self-extricate with only minor injuries, while the second driver was pinned inside their vehicle by the steering wheel and dashboard.

The crew from Heavy Rescue 495 worked quickly to extricate the patient, using hydraulic spreaders, cutters, and a ram to remove the side of the vehicle and lift the roof and dashboard for additional space. The patient was successfully freed and transferred to a waiting ambulance.

The patient was then flown the trauma unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. The second driver was transported by Rescue Squad ambulance to Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment.

The Raritan Township Police Department is investigating the crash.
