Thousands without power after storms in Hunterdon County

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Several thousands are without power in Hunterdon County following severe weather.

Thunderstorms rolled through the area Tuesday evening, leaving over 6,000 people without power in Hunterdon County, according to Jersey Central Power and Light’s (JCP&L) outage map.

Crews have restored power to about 50,000 customers who were impacted by the storms, according to JCP&L.

Here’s a snapshot of the power outages from other counties in Northwest New Jersey as of 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday:

  • Morris County: 173
  • Somerset County: 1,190
  • Sussex County: 331
  • Warren County: 124

“Severe weather is causing power outages. Estimated restoration time will be provided when available,” officials said.

“At this stage, our crews prioritize clearing hazards like downed power lines, downed trees and blocked roads to ensure public safety. We must also assess the damage before crews can access outage sites and initiate safe repairs, which is a time-consuming process,” JCP&L said.
