2 men arrested in Somerset County home burglary
WARREN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – Two Passaic County men have been charged in connection with an alleged occupied residential burglary in Warren Township, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.
On Wednesday, April 30, at approximately 10:07 a.m., police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a burglary in progress at an occupied residence on Briarwood Drive East. The caller stated that a suspect had entered the home through a basement window and provided police with a description of the suspect vehicle as it fled the scene, McDonald said.
Officers quickly responded and, within minutes, utilized Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) to identify a vehicle matching the description. Authorities discovered that the vehicle was also displaying a stolen New Jersey license plate and was traveling north near Liberty Corner Road, McDonald said.
The information was shared with surrounding law enforcement agencies. Shortly thereafter, a Bernards Township patrol officer located the suspect vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Mount Airy Road in Bernards Township, McDonald said.
Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Unit, along with officers from the Warren Township Police Department, responded to the scene and arrested Jeremy Proleon-Carmen, 20, of Paterson, and Julio L. Ponce-Giannotti, 44, of Clifton, McDonald said.
Both were charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, McDonald said.
Proleon-Carmen and Ponce-Giannotti were remanded to the Somerset County Jail pending a Superior Court detention hearing, McDonald said.
