Morris County to hold virtual public meeting on East Hanover Avenue Bridge rail clearance project
EAST HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County, in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14, to discuss the East Hanover Avenue Bridge Catenary Rail Clearance Project and gather community feedback.
The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with presentations scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the NJTPA Freight Concept Development Study, which aims to address height restrictions on the NJ Transit Morristown Line between Denville and Morristown.
The existing height limitations currently prevent standard Plate “F” freight railcars from moving freely between the Washington Secondary Line and the Whippany Line, posing challenges for freight transportation through the region.
“This study is an important step in improving freight mobility in Morris County,” said Stephen Shaw, Morris County Commissioner Deputy Director and Secretary of the NJTPA. “We encourage residents, business owners and local officials to participate in the meeting to learn about the project and contribute input.”
The NJTPA is conducting the study in partnership with Morris County to explore infrastructure improvements that would enhance freight efficiency and regional connectivity.
