4 bald eagles found weak in Warren County, cause under investigation

WARREN COUNTY, N.J. — Four bald eagles found weak and grounded in Warren County earlier this week are being treated as officials investigate a possible cause, according to The Raptor Trust.

The wildlife rehabilitation organization in Morris County said it first received three bald eagles from the same area, followed by a fourth the next day. The birds were transported to the facility with assistance from local animal control officers and state and federal wildlife agencies.

The eagles showed symptoms consistent with a possible acute toxicity, though the exact cause has not been determined. Samples have been sent to a laboratory for testing, with results expected in the coming days.

The birds are receiving supportive care and have shown some signs of improvement, but remain in guarded condition, the organization said.

The incident has been reported to state and federal wildlife law enforcement agencies for review and investigation.
