91-year-old man dies after four-vehicle crash on I-80 in Morris County

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County): A 91-year-old Boonton man died following a four-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 80 in Morris County.

Troopers responded to the crash at 8:40 a.m. on I-80 west near milepost 34.4 in Rockaway Township.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet SUV, Hyundai SUV, Honda passenger vehicle and Kia passenger vehicle were traveling westbound on I-80 when the crash occurred.

Police said the Chevrolet was reversing on the right shoulder near Exit 34B and then entered the exit lanes, where it was struck by the Hyundai. The Hyundai then crossed all lanes of travel and struck the rear of the Honda and the driver’s side of the Kia.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 91-year-old man from Boonton, sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he later died, state police said.

The driver of the Kia suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was released.
