SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Randolph attorney and two alleged accomplices have been charged in connection with an alleged fraud scheme that police say resulted in the theft of more than $550,000 from a Sparta Township resident.
According to the Sparta Township Police Department, the investigation began July 3, 2025, when the victim reported to police headquarters that he believed he had been defrauded of more than $500,000. Detective Matthew Pletcher was assigned as the lead investigator.
Police allege the victim had hired Gary D. Grant, 68, of Randolph, who owns and operates Grant Law Group LLC and Grant Real Estate Equities LLC, to facilitate a real estate transaction. On Dec. 12, 2025, police executed search and arrest warrants at Grant’s residence in Randolph and at his business location in Denville.
Grant was taken into custody and charged with theft by deception; two counts of failure to make required disposition of property received; misapplication of entrusted property; money laundering; unauthorized practice of law; credit card fraud; impersonation or theft of identity; and conspiracy to commit those offenses.
