Sussex County girl, 6, dies in badminton accident while on vacation in Maine
LIMERICK, ME (York County) – A 6-year-old Sussex county girl died this week after a badminton accident while on vacation in Maine, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Shannon Moss.
On June 1, at around 12:00 pm, Limerick Fire and EMS responded to a residence on North Shore Drive in Limerick for an injured child. EMS transported the child and later notified the Maine State Police Southern Field Troop, Moss said.
Lucy Morgan, 6, of Stockholm, which is part of Hardyston Township, received an unintentional injury from her 10-year-old brother while they were playing outside, Moss said.
Investigators learned that the aluminum shaft of a badminton racquet had become dislodged from the wooden handle, causing the shaft to strike the girl in the head, piercing through her skull, Moss said.
She was transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford and then flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Morgan died from her injuries on June 5, Moss said.
“The Maine State Police would like to extend their deepest condolences to the Morgan family,” Moss said.
