Police: Man charged in Morris County robbery

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man accused of robbing a man in Mount Olive Township has been arrested.

On June 12, at 9:15 p.m., officers responded to Eagle Rock Village in the area of building 47 for the report of a disturbance in progress, police said.

When officers arrived they located a male victim who had been robbed by an individual wearing all black, black ski mask and had a pointed object in his hand, police said.

The suspect caused a minor injury to the victim during the incident and the suspect fled on foot prior to officer’s arrival, officials said.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect was identified as Jean P. Rubio, 20, of Budd Lake. Officers searched the area with the assistance of Morris County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Unit but were unable to locate Rubio, police said.

Although Rubio fled on foot, a witness advised that he had previously arrived in a vehicle. A search of the vehicle he arrived in yielded two black ski masks and a screwdriver, police said.

On June 13, at 9:10 p.m., detectives were conducting surveillance when they observed Rubio enter a vehicle in close proximity to their location. The detectives followed the vehicle to the Shell Gas Station on Route 46 and approached the vehicle as it was getting gas at one of the pumps, police said.

Rubio was found to be seated in the passenger seat and when he was asked to exit the vehicle, he attempted to avoid arrest by fleeing and refusing to listen to the detectives’ verbal commands. After resisting his own arrest, he was taken into custody, police said.

Rubio was charged with robbery, possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of weapons, resisting arrest, hindering own apprehension, obstruction, and criminal mischief. He was then lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance, police said.
