Morris County man sentenced to 15 years in 2020 killing of his wife

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man will serve 15 years in prison in connection to the shooting death of his wife in March 2020, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll.

Alexander Jacobs, 79, of East Hanover Township was sentenced on July 12 before the Honorable Stephen Taylor to an aggregate sentence of 15 years in New Jersey State Prison, and subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA), Carroll said.

Jacobs entered a guilty plea before Judge Taylor to first-degree aggravated manslaughter on May 31, 2024.

On March 26, 2020, at around 2:02 p.m., police responded to a residence on Selmar Terrac in East Hanover Township for a 911 call. Upon arrival, first responding officers located the 911 caller outside the residence, who informed officers of a domestic incident involving a gun inside the residence, Carroll said.

The investigation revealed that Alexander shot his wife Lilia Jacobs, 71, in the head resulting in her death. Jacobs admitted discharging a loaded .380 Beretta, which caused her death, Carroll said.

Jacobs has been in custody throughout the duration of this case, Carroll said.
