Route 206 northbound lane closure Monday night for work at Falcon Road and Triangle Road intersection in Somerset County
Original configuration to be restored
HILLSBOROUGH TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – Route 206 northbound is scheduled to have a lane closure Monday night to restore the Falcon Road/Triangle Road intersection to its original configuration as the Route 206, Doctors Way to Valley Road project advances in Hillsborough Township.
In addition, lane closures on Falcon Road and Triangle Road are also scheduled for Monday night. If there is inclement weather, the work will be done on Wednesday, December 18.
Beginning at 8:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, the left lane on Route 206 northbound is scheduled to be closed approaching the Falcon Road/Triangle Road intersection. One lane will be maintained. In addition, there will be lane closures on Falcon Road westbound at the Route 206 intersection, and the left lane on Triangle Road eastbound approaching Route 206 is scheduled to be closed at the same time. The closures are necessary to restripe Route 206 northbound, Falcon Road, and Triangle Road to restore the original lane configuration at the intersection.
By 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, the intersection will be restored to its original configuration:
- Route 206 northbound – the dedicated left turn lane will be removed resulting in three lanes at the intersection: two through lanes, and a dedicated right turn lane
- Route 206 northbound ramp to Falcon Road/Triangle Road will reopen
- Falcon Road – All four lanes at the intersection will be reopened with two dedicated left turn lanes, one through lane, and a dedicated right turn lane
- Triangle Road eastbound – A dedicated left turn lane will be reopened, restoring four lanes: two dedicated left turn lanes, one through lane, and a dedicated right turn lane
- Triangle Road westbound – the second lane from the Route 206 intersection will be removed with one lane restored
The federally-funded Route 206, Doctors Way to Valley Road project will create two travel lanes in each direction of Route 206 between Doctors Way and Valley Road, enhance safety and ease traffic congestion. The project will also include the construction of a new median barrier which will eliminate left turns to and from properties located along the highway and will direct turns onto newly signalized intersections, and jughandles. This will reduce turn-related crashes and optimize traffic flow.
Portable variable message signs are being used to provide advance notification of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for real-time travel information.
