Mother charged with murder in 3-year-old daughter’s death in Morris County
FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — A woman has been accused of murder following the death of her 3-year-old daughter, who was allegedly found unresponsive in a bathtub earlier this month in Florham Park, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
Police responded around 10:41 p.m. on July 6 to a residence on Woods End Road for a report of an unresponsive 43-year-old woman, later identified as Jeanine Glass of Florham Park Borough. Officers found her unconscious on the first floor of the home. Her clothes were wet, and she was transported to a local hospital after receiving medical care at the scene.
While assisting a family member upstairs, officers discovered a 3-year-old girl — identified as Glass’s daughter — face down and unresponsive in several inches of water in a bathtub. She was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. A postmortem examination by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending.
Glass was charged on July 22 with first-degree murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. After her discharge from the hospital, she was taken into custody and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility, where she remains pending future court proceedings under the Criminal Justice Reform Act.
The investigation was conducted by the Florham Park Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
“The death of the little girl is a heartbreaking and senseless loss for the Florham Park community,” Carroll said. “Our hearts go out to all those coping with this unconscionable tragedy, including loved ones and first responders who answered the call that night. For the sake of the surviving family, we ask that citizens exercise discretion and compassion while discussing the situation on social media. Please remember that these are real people — your neighbors — involved here.”
Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando added, “I want to thank the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris County Sheriff’s Department for the interagency cooperation exhibited during this horrific incident, which allowed for a successful conclusion to what is the most heinous of crimes. In particular, I want to recognize the investigative efforts of Detective Sgt. Pietropinto, Detective Jenna Powers, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Division, all of whose professionalism contributed to the outcome of this investigation.”
