Hunterdon County launches upgraded $2.3 million computer-aided dispatch system

HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — Hunterdon County officials marked the official launch of a newly upgraded Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System at the county’s Communications Center on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The $2.3 million project, funded by the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners, is designed to strengthen emergency response capabilities across the county by modernizing dispatch and recordkeeping for police, fire, and EMS operations.

Commissioner Jeff Kuhl said the system represents an important investment in public safety.

“This launch is a significant milestone in our continued investment in public safety. The new CAD system ensures that our emergency responders have faster access to critical information, better coordination across agencies, and stronger security for our residents,” Kuhl said.

The system was implemented after more than a year of planning and development led by Public Safety Director and OEM Coordinator Brayden Fahey and his team, in partnership with Computer Systems Innovations (CSI). Officials said it is one of the few systems of its kind at the county level in New Jersey.

Key features of the CAD platform include integrated real-time data sharing between police, fire, and EMS, streamlined records management, improved dispatch accuracy and response times, and a shared services model that reduces costs for local departments.

“Hunterdon County is proud to continue our longstanding status as the premiere countywide dispatch center in New Jersey by transforming and enhancing a fully integrated CAD system of this scale at the county level,” Fahey said. “This initiative puts us at the forefront of public safety innovation, and it reflects our commitment to providing first responders with the tools they need to protect our communities effectively and efficiently.”

The launch event highlighted the collaborative design process, which included input from frontline responders. Telecommunication dispatchers, already using the upgraded system, joined Commissioner Kuhl, Public Safety staff, and CSI personnel to ensure a seamless transition as the system went live.

Officials said the system is expected to improve emergency outcomes by boosting operational efficiency, enhancing interagency coordination, and reducing administrative workload for first responders.
