Washington Township’s ‘Stuff the Humvee’ food drive fills vehicle for local pantries
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The Washington Township Police Department’s Stuff the Humvee food drive was a success Saturday, as residents filled the department’s Humvee with donations to support local food pantries.
“Thank you to everyone who came out to ShopRite Saturday and made a generous donation!” the department said in a statement. “We managed to completely fill the Humvee. This was an amazing show of support for our local food pantries.”
Police also noted that online discussions about the event helped inspire more participation.
“We’re also grateful for all the community engagement on Facebook today. It turns out even a few negative comments can do some positive work. Several people mentioned they decided to donate after seeing the discussion online!” the department said.
All collected food and items will be sorted Monday and delivered to food banks serving the community.
“Washington truly is a great community, and we can’t thank everyone enough for stepping up to help our neighbors,” police said.
