Mega Millions jackpot nears $1B for eighth time in game’s history

The Mega Millions® jackpot is once again nearing the billion-dollar mark — only the eighth time in the game’s 22-year history that it has reached such heights.

After no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night — 10, 13, 40, 42, 46, and the gold Mega Ball 1 — the jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, Nov. 14 has climbed to an estimated $965 million, or $445.3 million cash.

This marks the eighth-largest jackpot since Mega Millions began in 2002, trailing only seven previous jackpots that topped $1 billion. The most recent of those was a $1.269 billion prize won in California on Dec. 27, 2024.

Friday’s drawing will also mark a new record — the 40th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner — since the last big prize was claimed in Virginia on June 27.

In Tuesday’s drawing, there were 809,030 winning tickets across all prize tiers, totaling more than $27.9 million in nationwide winnings.

Three tickets matched all five white balls to win the second-tier prize:

  • One ticket in Arizona included the 5X multiplier, earning a $5 million prize.
  • Two others, sold in Iowa and New York, each included the 3X multiplier for $3 million prizes.

Another 27 tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win third-tier prizes, ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 depending on their multipliers. Two of those winning tickets were sold in New Jersey.

Since the jackpot run began on June 27, nearly 13.2 million winning tickets have been sold, resulting in $316 million in total prizes, including 20 second-tier winners worth up to $5 million each.

So far in 2025, four Mega Millions jackpots have been won:

  • $112 million in Arizona on Jan. 17
  • $349 million in Illinois on March 25
  • $112 million in Ohio on April 18
  • $348 million in Virginia on June 27

Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets cost $2 per play, and an optional Megaplier can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times.
