Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey to hold 20th annual beach volleyball tournament
MANASQUAN BOROUGH, N.J. (Monmouth County) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey has opened registration for its 20th annual Beach Volleyball Tournament, which will raise money for youth mentoring programs.
The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Main Street Beach in Manasquan. The event is open to players of varying ages and skill levels, with competitive and recreational brackets.
Over the past 20 years, the tournament has raised more than $400,000 for the organization’s one-to-one mentoring programs, which pair local youth with adult mentors, according to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey.
“When we started the tournament, we hoped it would become something that people would look forward to every year, but we never really knew how long it would last or how much it would grow. Seeing what it has become and how many returning teams and supporters we have is something I’m really proud of. It’s been a real privilege to be part of the growth, and the best part is knowing that every year we grow, we’re able to provide more support to kids who need it. I’m grateful to everyone who has helped make this event what it is and excited to see where we go from here,” said Brian Higgins, Former Board of Trustee and Honoree.
Each registered team is guaranteed at least three games. Participants will also receive breakfast and lunch, and the event will include giveaways, prizes and trophies for top teams and fundraisers.
Fundraising goals are set at $125 for each adult participant and $100 for each student participant.
“Our agency is fortunate to have partners and teams who continue to show up for this tournament year after year, and many who have even increased their support along the way,” said William Salcedo, Executive Director of BBBSCNNJ. “That kind of commitment means a lot to the kids we serve and to us. We’re grateful to everyone who makes this event possible, and I’m looking forward to another great tournament this year.”
Those who cannot attend or compete can support the organization by creating individual or team online fundraising campaigns, sponsoring a court or making a donation.
The tournament playoffs are expected to begin around 12:30 p.m., with awards scheduled for approximately 1:30 p.m.
Team registration, donations and corporate sponsorship information are available through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey at mentornj.org/volleyball.
