Early-morning fire destroys vacant trailer in Hunterdon County; no injuries reported

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A fire that broke out early Wednesday morning destroyed a vacant trailer along Route 31 in Clinton Township, though no injuries were reported, according to police.

Chief of Police Thomas DeRosa said officers responded at 1:36 a.m. on Dec. 3 to a report of a structure fire at 1884 Route 31 North. When patrol units arrived, they found the structure — identified as a double-wide trailer — almost completely consumed by flames.

Nearby trees and a backhoe were also on fire, DeRosa said.

Fire departments from multiple surrounding communities responded to assist, along with South Branch Emergency Services. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, and officials confirmed that no one was living in the trailer and no individuals were inside at the time of the incident.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office was notified, along with township, county and state fire officials. DeRosa said no injuries were reported.

According to preliminary findings by the Clinton Township Fire Marshal and the State Fire Warden, the fire was deemed accidental, and no suspicious circumstances were identified. Police said the incident is now considered closed.
