Acting governor lifts state of emergency after federal SNAP suspension ends

TRENTON, N.J. — Acting Gov. Way on Monday lifted New Jersey’s State of Emergency tied to the federal suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The emergency declaration, issued under Executive Order No. 402 on Oct. 31, will officially end at 3 p.m. Monday with the signing of Executive Order No. 405, state officials said.

New Jersey distributed full November SNAP benefits to eligible households on the morning of Nov. 7, after the federal government restored funding. With the shutdown resolved, the Murphy administration said it does not anticipate further disruptions to SNAP benefits.

The temporary State of Emergency had been enacted in response to the Trump administration’s suspension of federal SNAP payments, which affected hundreds of thousands of residents statewide.
