Kean votes for FY2026 defense bill, backs troop pay raise and Picatinny Arsenal mission
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Tom Kean Jr., R-N.J., on Wednesday announced his support for the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act, saying the legislation strengthens national security, invests in military readiness, and delivers benefits for servicemembers and New Jersey’s Picatinny Arsenal.
“Tonight, I voted in support of the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to strengthen our national security, promote peace through strength, and deliver real improvements for our servicemembers,” Kean said in a statement.
Kean said the bill includes measures aimed at border security, countering China, and enhancing counterterrorism programs. He also highlighted the inclusion of the SAFER SKIES Act, which he said “empowers authorities with the necessary tools to defeat drones when they present a threat to the public.”
“This year’s NDAA makes major strides in protecting our homeland,” he said. “Our bill also advances America’s military dominance by revitalizing the defense industrial base and investing in key priorities like missile defense, autonomous systems, and new warships.”
Kean noted that the final legislation includes a version of his amendment intended to strengthen ammunition capabilities, supporting operations at Picatinny Arsenal, a major hub for weapons research and development in New Jersey.
The bill also provides a 3.8% pay raise for servicemembers, along with expanded access to childcare, healthcare, and improved military housing.
“To support our servicemembers and their families, the bill provides a 3.8% troop pay raise, expands access to childcare and healthcare, and improves housing,” Kean said. “These improvements will ensure that those who serve our country can focus on their mission without worrying about the well-being of their loved ones.”
Kean added that he looks forward to the FY2026 defense bill advancing.
“I look forward to seeing this legislation, which puts our national security and servicemembers first, head to the President’s desk for signing,” he said.
