Boil water advisory lifted for Mount Olive Villages Water Company customers
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A systemwide boil water advisory issued earlier this week for customers of the Mount Olive Villages Water Company has been lifted after repairs were completed and water quality testing confirmed the supply is safe, officials said.
The advisory was put in place following a water main break Tuesday at 194 King Village in Budd Lake that caused some customers to lose water service or experience significantly reduced pressure. Officials said the advisory was issued as a precaution due to the potential risk to water quality.
Company officials said repairs to the main have been completed and subsequent testing shows the water meets safety standards. Customers no longer need to boil water before using it.
Although the advisory has been lifted, officials strongly encouraged customers to take several precautionary steps to ensure water quality within their homes. Residents are advised to run all water faucets for three to five minutes to flush service connections and interior plumbing.
Customers should also empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers, drain and refill hot water heaters if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit, and run water softeners or cartridge filters through a regeneration cycle or follow manufacturer-recommended procedures. Water reservoirs in tall buildings should also be drained and refilled, where applicable.
Officials apologized for the inconvenience caused by the advisory and thanked customers for their patience during the repairs and testing process.
Customers with questions or concerns may contact Elan Schwartz at 973-691-2239.
The earlier advisory applied only to customers served by the privately owned Mount Olive Villages Water Company and did not affect other water systems in the township, officials said.
