Police contain dryer fire at Clinton Township apartment complex

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A dryer fire at an apartment complex in the Annandale section of Clinton Township was quickly contained Sunday, with no injuries reported, police said.

Officers were dispatched March 15 to Pumpkin Farm Court for a reported fire inside an apartment. The first officer to arrive found residents already outside, with smoke coming from the unit.

Police said all occupants had safely evacuated, though three cats remained inside the apartment.

The officer entered the smoke-filled residence with a fire extinguisher and located flames burning on the floor in front of a dryer in the laundry room. The fire was extinguished before it could spread further, officials said.

Additional officers arrived and evacuated nearby apartments as a precaution while awaiting the fire department.

Annandale Hose Company and South Branch Emergency Services responded, took command of the scene and checked for remaining hazards. The missing cats were later located unharmed, and the apartment was turned back over to the occupants.

The apartment complex management company was notified to address damage and any necessary repairs.

Officials said the early evacuation by residents and the quick response by officers helped prevent the fire from escalating.
