Morris County Chamber to honor nonprofits at April 15 excellence awards event
FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — The Morris County Chamber of Commerce will recognize four local nonprofits and leaders during its annual Nonprofit Conference and Excellence Awards on April 15.
The event is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park and will feature keynote speaker Sarah Ahart, president of the Mimi Washington Starrett Foundation.
This year’s Nonprofit Excellence Awards for Innovative Program will be presented to Employment Horizons for its Readiness for Individual Success in Employment (RISE) program, and the Pearls of Wisdom Foundation for its Pre-school Power Pack program.
Awards for Exemplary Leadership will be given to Stephen Fredericks, founder and executive director of The Growing Stage–The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey, and Marcela Lenox, chief advancement officer at the West Morris Area YMCA.
The Mimi Washington Starrett Foundation supports organizations focused on improving communities through initiatives related to health, education, the arts, environmental preservation and other causes.
Ahart, who will deliver the keynote address, has more than 20 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations and advocating for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, as well as environmental and historical causes.
“Nonprofit organizations bring a wide variety of invaluable services to our communities, supporting causes that meet vital needs,” said Meghan Hunscher, chamber president. “They also provide volunteer and other partnership opportunities for businesses and their employees. The Morris County Chamber of Commerce has more than 100 members in the nonprofit sector and we are proud to provide programming, including forums, events and facilitation of volunteer opportunities, to further develop these partnerships, demonstrating the ‘power of connection.’ Our annual Nonprofit Conference and Excellence Awards is a celebration of the nonprofit community and a chance for our for-profit members and the public to join in that celebration.”
Organizers said the annual event typically draws more than 100 nonprofit professionals, volunteers, board members and donors.
