Morris County sheriff swears in 12 new correctional police officers

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Twelve new correctional police officers were sworn in Friday during a ceremony at the Morris County Correctional Facility, officials said.

Sheriff James M. Gannon administered the oath of office on April 24, formally welcoming the new officers to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Corrections.

The officers sworn in were Vincent Barba, Cameron Bascomb, Keegan Carvajal, John Coleman, Corey Dempster, Kenny Elysee, Shaquille Gould, Jacob Nelson, Destiny Neuberger and David VanWinkle, who recently graduated from the Essex County Police Academy on April 22. They were joined by Carina Felsberg and Jose Rodriguez, who previously graduated from the New Jersey Department of Corrections Training Academy and recently transferred to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.

During the ceremony, Gannon spoke about the responsibilities of the role, emphasizing the importance of commitment, integrity and resilience in the profession. He also acknowledged the support of families as officers begin their careers.

Officials said correctional police officers play a critical role in maintaining safety within the facility and the broader community.
