Dover officials address homeless encampment, safety concerns near county rail line
DOVER, N.J. (Morris County) — Dover officials are working with police and county representatives to address safety and sanitation concerns tied to a homeless encampment located beneath a bridge near the county rail line.
Mayor James P. Dodd recently met with members of the Dover Police Department and county officials to discuss conditions in the area, where large amounts of trash and debris have accumulated, according to the town.
Officials said the buildup has created health and safety concerns for residents and for individuals living within the encampment.
In response, the town is organizing large-scale cleanup efforts while also developing long-term solutions aimed at preventing similar conditions from returning in the future.
The Dover Police Department will continue monitoring and canvassing the area to ensure individuals are not living in dangerous conditions, officials said.
Town officials added that the ongoing efforts are intended to help maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for the community.
