Hunterdon County mother competes for national ‘Super Mom’ title while advocating for families facing medical challenges
FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Flemington mother is competing in the 2026 Super Mom Competition while using the national platform to raise awareness for families facing childhood medical and developmental challenges.
Kaitlin Schmidt, a New Jersey business professional and advocate for children and families, is participating in the annual competition, which celebrates mothers across the country while raising money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
For Schmidt, the campaign carries personal significance shaped by family experiences with serious illness.
When she was 14 years old, Schmidt lost her sister after a three-year battle with AML leukemia. During her sister’s illness, Schmidt donated bone marrow twice and stem cells once in an effort to help save her life.
“That chapter of my life changed me forever,” said Kaitlin Schmidt. “Watching a child fight for their life impacts an entire family. The doctors, nurses, hospitals, and support systems surrounding families during those moments become part of your story forever. Supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals means supporting families walking through some of the hardest moments imaginable.”
Schmidt now advocates for her son Bryce, who faces ongoing challenges related to epilepsy and ADHD. She said balancing work, medical appointments, therapies and educational support has reinforced the importance of community and family support systems.
“Bryce has taught me more about strength, patience, and unconditional love than I could ever put into words,” Kaitlin shared. “Every parent wants to protect their child, and when your child faces medical or developmental challenges, you learn quickly how important support systems truly are.”
According to organizers, the Super Mom Competition raises funds and awareness for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which supports 170 children’s hospitals across North America through funding for treatments, medical equipment and family support services.
Schmidt said she hopes sharing her experiences will encourage other parents facing similar struggles.
“So many families are quietly fighting battles behind closed doors,” Kaitlin added. “If sharing my story helps even one parent feel seen, supported, or hopeful, then it’s worth it.”
