Native habitat restoration event planned at O’sakame Preserve in Hunterdon County
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Musconetcong Watershed Association is inviting volunteers to participate in a native habitat restoration event next month at O’sakame Preserve in Holland Township.
The hands-on event, scheduled for Sunday, June 7, will focus on identifying and removing invasive plant species that threaten native habitats and wildlife throughout the preserve.
Organizers said removing invasive plants helps restore food sources and improve habitat conditions for birds, pollinators and other wildlife species.
Participants will learn how to identify and remove several invasive species, including mile-a-minute vine, Japanese barberry, multiflora rose, mugwort, honeysuckle and thistle.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at O’sakame Preserve at 355 Riegelsville Milford Road. A rain date has been scheduled for June 14.
The restoration effort is being organized through a partnership between the AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program and the Holland Township Environmental Commission.
Community members interested in participating can register online through the event’s Google Forms registration page.
