Bill providing $3.4 million to preserve four Warren County farms advances

WARREN COUNTY, N.J. — Legislation sponsored by state Sen. Doug Steinhardt to help preserve four farms in Warren County advanced Monday through the Senate Environment and Energy Committee.

The bipartisan bill, S-4427, would appropriate approximately $3.4 million to The Land Conservancy of New Jersey for farmland preservation projects in Blairstown and Harmony townships.

If approved, the funding would support the preservation of three farms in Blairstown Township and one farm in Harmony Township, helping to protect agricultural land from future development.

“Preserving these four farms is more than saving open space, it’s about protecting our way of life,” said Senator Steinhardt. “Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Warren County’s economy and heritage, and preserving these farms will help ensure this land remains productive for years to come.”

Under the legislation, up to $1.34 million would be allocated for the Baran farm in Blairstown Township, while the Mastrogiovanni farm would be eligible for up to $509,842. The RDA Properties farm in Blairstown Township could receive up to $1.36 million, and the Dugan farm in Harmony Township would be eligible for up to $260,810.

Steinhardt, whose legislative district includes Warren, Hunterdon and portions of Somerset counties, said preserving farmland helps protect both the local economy and the county’s agricultural heritage.

The bill now advances for further consideration in the legislative process.
