Vehicle destroyed in Thursday afternoon fire in Sussex County

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A sedan was destroyed by a fire Thursday afternoon at the Hampton Commons complex in Hampton Township, according to fire officials.

The Sussex County Sheriff’s 911 Center received multiple calls reporting the vehicle fire at approximately 2:37 p.m.

The first arriving fire chief found the sedan fully engulfed in flames. Officials said there were no exposures to nearby buildings or other vehicles.

Firefighters stretched a handline and quickly extinguished the blaze, while additional crews assisted with overhaul operations.

Most responding units were released from the scene shortly after the fire was brought under control. Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour before returning to service.

The cause of the fire was not released.
