NJDEP lifts harmful algal bloom advisory for Mountain Lake
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has lifted its harmful algal bloom advisory for Mountain Lake after recent testing found no harmful algal bloom present, according to the Mountain Lake Community Association.
The association said the NJDEP notified it that sampling and laboratory analysis found both cyanobacteria cell counts and toxin concentrations below the state’s advisory and watch thresholds.
As a result, officials said there are no concerns related to swimming, pets ingesting lake water or eating fish caught in the lake.
The actual test results have not yet been released. The Mountain Lake Community Association said it will share the results once they become available.
The association also said Liberty Township has been notified that the public beach can reopen and is working to address lifeguard staffing so the beach can resume operations.
The Warren County Health Department is expected to remove the orange advisory signs posted around the lake.
Mountain Lake had been under a harmful algal bloom advisory after earlier testing detected elevated toxin levels. The latest sampling indicates conditions have improved and the advisory is no longer in effect.
