Morris Avenue bridge in Denville to close for 2-month deck replacement project
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris Avenue in Denville Township will close to through traffic beginning next week as Morris County starts a bridge deck replacement project over Beaver Brook.
Construction on the Morris Avenue Bridge is scheduled to begin on or about Aug. 6 and is expected to take approximately two months, weather permitting. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
During construction, Morris Avenue will be closed to through traffic. A signed detour of about three miles will direct motorists via Ford Road and Kitchell Road. Truck traffic is advised to use Interstate 80 as an alternate route.
County officials said access to Morris Catholic High School and local businesses will remain open throughout the project.
The bridge, a single-span prestressed concrete structure built in 1958, remains structurally sound, according to the county. However, the concrete driving surface has deteriorated over time, and repeated patching has not prevented recurring potholes. Officials said replacing the bridge deck is the most practical and cost-effective way to extend the bridge’s service life.
The $352,725 project is funded by Morris County and will be completed by CMS Construction of Plainfield under contract with the county.
