Young black bear presumed hit by vehicle recovering at Hunterdon County wildlife refuge
ALEXANDRIA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) – A juvenile black bear that was presumably hit by a vehicle in Hunterdon County is recovering after being rescued and transported to Woodlands Wildlife Refuge for treatment, according to the refuge.
According to the refuge, the approximately 35-pound bear cub was found Wednesday along Rick Road in Alexandria Township after it was apparently hit by a vehicle. The cub was unconscious but still alive when a good Samaritan stopped to help.
The refuge said the bear, now named Aurora, was transported by a man identified only as Phil to Woodlands Wildlife Refuge before being taken to the Animal Hospital of Clinton-Perryville for evaluation.
Veterinarians determined the cub suffered a concussion but found no broken bones or internal injuries during the examination, according to the refuge.
Woodlands Wildlife Refuge said Aurora is receiving treatment for her concussion and will continue to undergo supportive care and rehabilitation as she recovers.
The refuge thanked the good Samaritan, the veterinary team at the Animal Hospital of Clinton-Perryville, and everyone who helped get the cub to safety.
