Congressman Kean delivers $2.4 million for Delaware River Park revitalization in Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. presented $2.4 million in federal funding to Phillipsburg this week for the revitalization of Delaware River Park.

The funding will support improvements to the park’s recreation fields and community recreational space, according to Kean’s office.

“I am pleased to deliver this federal funding to Phillipsburg,” said Congressman Kean.“Residents should be able to enjoy their local parks, and this $2,400,000 will fund the revitalization of the recreation fields so that families can continue to gather, play, and enjoy safe, well-maintained community spaces for years to come.”

Phillipsburg Mayor Randy Piazza said the investment will help the town address challenges at the park while improving recreational opportunities for residents.

“Open space is incredibly important to our community, but being an older industrial town also comes with unique challenges,” said Mayor Randy Piazza. “This $2.4 million investment will help us address those issues at Delaware River Park while creating a better place for our residents to enjoy. We thank Congressman Tom Kean for helping Phillipsburg make that progress.”

State Sen. Doug Steinhardt also welcomed the funding, calling the park an important asset along the Delaware River.

“This $2.4 million in funding is a major investment in the future of Delaware River Park and the Phillipsburg community,” said New Jersey Senator Doug Steinhardt. “These improvements will help revitalize the park, create a better recreational space for residents, and strengthen an important asset along the Delaware River. I’m grateful to Congressman Kean for his work helping secure this funding for Phillipsburg.”

Warren County Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla said the funding represents an important step toward rehabilitating the park.

“We have been very lucky to have a representative in Congress whose lifelong commitment to New Jersey helps him understand the needs of our area,” said Warren County Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla. “The $2.4 million to help rehabilitate the Delaware River Park is a game changer for Phillipsburg. As a river town, Phillipsburg has so much potential to be a beautiful place to both live and visit, and Congressman Kean understands this. The residents of Phillipsburg and the surrounding areas deserve to have this park brought back to life and this funding is a huge step forward.”

Assemblyman Erik Peterson also thanked Kean for securing the funding.

“Thank you for securing $2.4 million in federal funding to revitalize the Delaware River Park,” said New Jersey Assemblyman Erik Peterson. “This funding will allow Phillipsburg to regenerate a recreational space for future generations of New Jerseyans.”

Kean has secured more than $8 million for local recreation areas across New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District through the Community Project Funding process since taking office, according to his office.

All 15 projects submitted by Kean through the fiscal year 2026 Community Project Funding process have passed the U.S. House of Representatives, his office said.
