NEW JERSEY — New Jersey residents spend the second-lowest percentage of their household income on hair care in the country, according to a new WalletHub report released Wednesday.
The personal-finance company compared the cost of men’s barbershop haircuts and women’s beauty salon visits in all 50 states with each state’s median household income to determine where hair care is most and least affordable.
In New Jersey, the average cost of hair care was $83.62, representing 0.97% of the state’s median monthly household income, according to WalletHub.
The report comes as the cost of haircuts has risen nearly 79% over the past two decades.
WalletHub ranked New Jersey 16th for the average price of a men’s barbershop haircut and 26th for the average price of a women’s shampoo, trim and blow-dry.
For purposes of the study, WalletHub defined hair care as a men’s barbershop haircut and a women’s shampoo, trim and blow-dry.
