Clear Eyes eye drops recalled nationwide over potential contamination, FDA says
More than 39,000 bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief are being recalled nationwide because of potential contamination and a lack of assurance that the product is sterile, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The voluntary recall involves Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief sold in 0.5-fluid-ounce, or 15-milliliter, dropper bottles.
According to the FDA, the affected product can be identified by lot number 2552A and an expiration date of Sept. 30, 2027. The product has NDC number 67172-999-01 and UPC 6 78112 65920 3.
A total of 39,060 bottles are included in the recall, with distribution nationwide in the United States.
The FDA said the recall was initiated July 29 by Prestige Brands Holdings of Tarrytown, New York, because of a “lack of assurance of sterility” due to potential contamination.
The FDA classified the recall as Class II on Aug. 14. A Class II recall means use of or exposure to the affected product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
The affected eye drops are distributed by Medtech Products Inc., a Prestige Consumer Healthcare company. The FDA lists the recall under number D-0766-2026.
