FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County will host two workshops in September to help residents better understand Medicare and their coverage options ahead of the annual open enrollment period.
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program, or SHIP, will offer its “Understanding Medicare” program twice before Medicare Open Enrollment, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.
The first workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Hunterdon County Senior Center Auditorium. A second session will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Senior Services Annex, 1 Walter E. Foran Blvd. in Flemington.
“Medicare can be complicated, and understanding the different parts of the program and the coverage options available can make a real difference when it comes time to make these important decisions,” Commissioner Shaun Van Doren said. “These workshops give residents an opportunity to learn the basics, ask questions and get reliable information that can help them make informed choices about their coverage.”
Van Doren serves as liaison to the Hunterdon County Department of Human Services.
SHIP’s state-trained volunteers assist people who are enrolled in Medicare or preparing to enroll. Volunteers provide information about the different parts of Medicare and help participants understand their coverage options and identify appropriate, cost-effective coverage.
The workshops will provide a Medicare 101 overview and allow residents to ask questions directly of SHIP representatives.
“These sessions are an excellent resource for anyone who wants to better understand Medicare, whether they are already enrolled, approaching eligibility or helping a family member navigate the process,” Van Doren said. “I encourage residents to register early, as these popular workshops tend to fill up quickly.”
