NJEDA to open applications for $25M electric vehicle charging program Oct. 5
TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Economic Development Authority will open applications Monday, Oct. 5, for a $25 million program aimed at helping private commercial fleets install electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The Take Charge Program will provide funding for charging infrastructure projects as private commercial fleets transition to electric vehicles. Projects must also include on-site renewable energy generation and/or energy storage systems to help manage power demand from chargers.
Applications will open at 10 a.m. Monday.
The NJEDA will provide grants ranging from $100,000 to $5 million to reimburse applicants for 50% of eligible project costs, including charging hardware and related installation costs. Funding can be increased by an additional 5% to 10% for projects that meet certain bonus criteria.
The program is funded through Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative proceeds allocated to the NJEDA and is intended to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission transportation in New Jersey.
Eligible applicants include for-profit commercial organizations purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in New Jersey.
Organizations must have at least two existing commercial-use vehicles. Eligible vehicles can include light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as off-road and maritime vehicles.
The NJEDA said private fleets looking to adopt electric vehicles often face high costs associated with installing charging infrastructure and making site upgrades necessary to operate chargers.
An informational webinar for prospective applicants will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 5, to provide more information about the program and application process.
Additional information about eligibility, applications and webinar registration is available through the NJEDA’s Take Charge Program website.
